ARTS AND HOMELESSNESS INTERNATIONAL

Co-creation, policy making and the place of creativity in homelessness provision

From 2017 to 2022, I was part of the leadership team at Arts & Homelessness International (AHI), a global network advocating for the role of creativity in homelessness provision and policy. As Executive Producer I co-led establishing the movement (previously hosted by Streetwise Opera) into a charity. I drove all aspects of fundraising, from strategy to delivery, across earned income, trusts and foundations, partnerships, and individual giving.

Alongside income generation, I designed and facilitated capacity-building workshops for artists, cultural organisations, local authorities and frontline services. A key strand of my work was the Cultural Spaces Response to Homelessness Programme, which supported venues including Tate Modern, Southbank Centre, Whitechapel Gallery and the Barbican to become more welcoming and inclusive to people who are or have been homeless. I conceived and helped develop the Associates Leadership Programme which supports 8 individuals and their creative practice each year.

Internally, I supported the organisation’s growth and sustainability contributing to policy development, recruitment, international relationship-building and the evolution of our strategy. I worked closely with the Director to ensure that AHI remained artist-led, values-driven and responsive to the needs of its network.

My time at AHI confirmed the power of the arts not only to raise awareness, but to shift systems by embedding creativity as a core part of recovery, policy-making and community building, as evidenced by the Jigsaw of Homeless Support which I have helped internationalise throughout my other work. To this day I support AHI’s work by coaching the Associates every year.

"Lora has been a brilliant part of Arts & Homelessness International’s (AHI) Associate Leadership Programme over the past three years. As part of the programme, all our Associates have access to 1-to-1 coaching with her to help them achieve their creative and personal goals. Lora brings so much care, insight, and warmth to her work, and it’s made a real and lasting difference to those she’s worked with."
