Global voices theatre

A platform for international theatre in translation

Global Voices Theatre (GVT) was a female and non-binary, immigrant-led pioneering platform for international performance, co-founded by Lora Krasteva and Robin Skyer with Zhu Ning Chang. Our mission was to amplify theatre and performance work by underrepresented global artists, decolonise local theatre structures, advocate for international artistic practices and contribute to the professional development of artists across borders.

Born in 2018 at the Arcola Theatre in London and later becoming an Associate Company at the Roundhouse, GVT produced 10 rehearsed readings event spanning 7 years, working with over 250 creatives including writers, translators, directors, curators and performers. Partners included the British Library, Border Crossings, Rich Mix, AWAN Festival, Bush Theatre and Bloomsbury Publishing.

Besides our flagship events, GVT organised 2 semesters of the Anti-School of Theatre, a digital platform for non-hierarchical theatre education centring the voices and skills of Global Majority makers. Throughout the years we took part in numerous industry and academic discussions about decolonisation and theatre programming. We contributed to anti-bias training for the Woven Price for Playwrighting and recorded an episode for their podcast, Migratives

Though no longer producing regular events, GVT's legacy lives on through its alumni, international collaborations, and published works remaining a blueprint for what truly inclusive, artist-led, globally conscious theatre-making can look like.

You can order Global Queer Plays; Global Jewish Plays and Latin American Plays in Translation all available via Bloomsbury. You can also listen to the GVT podcast series Global Black Voices and Global Jewish Voices.

"I've come to know Lora through her incredible community work at the Arcola Theatre, and her newly-founded company Global Voices Theatre has the real potential to be a game-changer for the industry. She is an absolute force for good for both the local and national scene -- I'm so excited to see what the future has in store for her and her brilliant ideas. I can’t think of anyone better suited for this grant at this very moment in time.“
