What does it mean to return to a place that has changed? Or to a version of yourself that no longer fits?

Laboratories of Return brings together Bulgarians in Sofia who have moved back to the country to explore these questions through movement, improvisation, and dialogue. Hosted at BAZA in Sofia, these workshops offer a low-pressure, playful space to process the joys and frictions of coming home.

A Path to the Stage

These sessions as well as informal interviews I am conducting in the community are a vital part of the creative development for a future documentary performance. By participating, you aren't just attending a workshop: you are helping to shape the narrative of a future devised production. Through games and storytelling, we are collectively unearthing the themes, tensions, and triumphs that will eventually form the backbone of a new show.

Who are the workshops for?

The workshops are designed for anyone who has experienced the 'return' journey, regardless of how long you were away or how long you’ve been back. You don’t need any theatre experience to join. We focus on building confidence, fostering community, and finding creative ways to tell our stories.

Participants can attend individual sessions or the full series, contributing their lived experience to a project that aims to make the invisible labour of migration and repatriation visible on stage.

A physical and high-energy session focused on group dynamics and trust, using ensemble-building games to transform a group of strangers into a supportive creative community.

Saturday, 28th March 2026: Documentary Theatre
A focused exploration of personal testimony and documentary techniques, where we begin translating real-life memories, articles, news stories and reports into compelling dramatic material.
